Lesson 3: Making linkages

Children experiment with making the linkages that will enable their monsters move, varying the width, length and thicknesses of the card they use and demonstrating to the class the success of these adaptations

Learning Objectives

  • Understanding that linkages use levers and pivots to create motion

  • Making linkages using card for levers and split pins for pivots

  • Knowing how to safely make holes in card

  • Experimenting with the linkages made by changing the widths, lengths and thicknesses of card used
